This week I became a the new nutritional columnist for Sugahfix. Each month I will be sharing nutritional tips and advice, here is my first article please give it a read.
Today I have a question for you, are you drinking enough fluids?
It is no secret that health agencies recommended you should drink between 6-8 glasses (2lts) of water, low-fat milk or other sugar-free drinks each a day.
“Remember, you may need more fluids if you are larger in height and build; exercise or sweat heavily. However, you may need less water if you drink other beverages often for example herbal tea.
“Fluids and hydration come with some many benefits for the body and it is always the first thing I address with all new members, if you can crack getting 2-3 litres of fluids into you each day, I promise you will see massive differences in your health and lifestyle”.
The 6 wonders of water!
- Water boosts your energy
If you’re feeling drained and depleted, get a pick-me-up with water. Dehydration makes you feel fatigued.
Water helps the blood transport oxygen and other essential nutrients to your cells. If you’re getting enough water, your heart also doesn’t have to work as hard to pump blood throughout your body, thus giving you more energy.
- Lower stress with water
85% of your brain tissue is water! If you’re dehydrated, both your body and your mind will be stressed.
Remember if you’re feeling thirsty, you’re already a little dehydrated! To keep stress levels down, keep a glass of water at your desk or carry a sports bottle and sip regularly throughout the day.
I recommend every girl gets themselves a HydrateMate!
Water is nature’s own beauty cream; fine lines and wrinkles are deeper when you’re dehydrated.
Drinking water hydrates skin cells and plumps them up, making your face look younger. It also flushes out impurities and improves circulation and blood flow, leaving your face clean, clear and glowing!
4. Stay regular with water
Along with fibre, water is essential for good digestion. It helps dissolve waste particles and pass them smoothly through your digestive system.
If you’re dehydrated, your body absorbs all the water, leaving your bowel motions dry and more difficult to pass!
5. Stay slimmer with water
Trying to lose weight? Water up’s your metabolism and helps you feel fuller for longer.
Replace calorie heavy beverages with water and drink a glass before every meal to help you feel eat less and feel full.
Drinking more water also helps pump up your metabolism; especially if your glass is extra cold. Your body has to work to warm the water up, burning a few extra calories!
6. Build muscle tone with water
Drinking water helps prevent muscle cramping and lubricates joints in the body.
When you’re well hydrated, you can exercise longer and stronger without “hitting the wall.”
